The Silent Trade: The Mysterious Hidden Half of Our Physical World

We often say we live in a small world, sometimes casually, sometimes with wonder. But whatever size we imagine it to be, a vast portion of its physical presence lives unseen. Beneath our feet exists a hidden half that quietly carries the weight of our survival. A tree, for instance, reveals only part of its… Continue reading

About Me

I’m an architect, creative writer, artist, and urban researcher drawn to learning from people, places, and everyday life. With a background in architecture, urban planning, art, and urban forestry, I see places not merely as destinations, but as lived stories, each crafted by time and human presence. By tracing these threads, I seek to discover who I am.

I am also the author of Chronicles of the Urban Canopy on Medium, where I document stories of urban forests, placemaking, and the quiet interplay between nature, people, and the built environment.

Blending travel reflection with insights from my professional world, I explore the art of slow observation. Through my writing, I aim to guide readers from simple pleasure to deeper understanding, translating the places I visit, the people I meet, and the moments I cherish into a narrative of quiet wisdom.

Here, you’ll find stories and insights about the wonders I encounter on my walks. My goal is to inspire others to step outside, explore, and see the world anew.

I invite you to join me on this journey. Feel free to explore the site and get in touch if my words resonate with you.

When I was a child, I first heard about the amazing energy and power that yoga could bring through steady practice. At that time, I visualized yoga as something practiced by Rishis in the Himalayas. When I was a teenager, I became deeply passionate about Karate and engaged in steady, regular practice because it was accessible to me. As a young girl living in a remote town in Sri Lanka, I built strength and stability through my practice and loved the confidence and physical strength it gave me, especially when facing gender-based discrimination, either toward me as a girl or… Read more: What Is Yoga for Me?

You leave for the woods before sunrise,or curious to climb with the sun.Your muscles, bones, even the tiny nervesall want to be inside the green:feeling breeze, morning dew, freshness of green leaves, fragrance of soil, capturing every view. As you hike through the deep woods,The forest leaves no part of you untouched. You become the hike: one with the wilderness. Serpentine sand, zigzag rock, the damp, muddy soil.Wait until the snails, worms, and beetleswelcome you into their domain. Remember! You’re not the first to step in here. The mossy trees are old; they know what the trail does not,the ones who came before, the… Read more: When You Hike, You Become the Hike
The Story Behind Snoqualmie Falls: Beauty, Power, and the Spirit of the Land

Amidst the enchanting beauty of clumps of emerald trees and lush, moss-covered hills in the countryside outside Seattle, Washington, lies a place of magic: Snoqualmie Falls, nestled between Snoqualmie and Fall City. Journeying along the winding, rugged country roads brought back nostalgic memories of the charming landscapes of my beloved homeland, Sri Lanka. Above all, the beauty of Snoqualmie Falls is unsurpassed by any other tropical waterfall of its kind. This picturesque 268-foot waterfall cascades against a breathtaking natural forest landscape composed of long-lived, tall, moss-covered trees and lush vegetation. Wild berries and ferns add intricacies to the landscape. It… Read more: The Story Behind Snoqualmie Falls: Beauty, Power, and the Spirit of the Land

We often say we live in a small world, sometimes casually, sometimes with wonder. But whatever size we imagine it to be, a vast portion of its physical presence lives unseen. Beneath our feet exists a hidden half that quietly carries the weight of our survival. A tree, for instance, reveals only part of its story above ground. What we admire–the trunk, the branches, the leaves–is merely the visible chapter. The rest unfolds below, where an intricate root system stretches wide and deep into the earth, forming a mysterious architecture that anchors life itself. These roots are never still. They… Read more: The Silent Trade: The Mysterious Hidden Half of Our Physical World

On a cold December morning, we broke free from the everyday bustle of our corner of the Pacific Northwest and drove north along scenic routes. As the city slowly softened behind us, we crossed the illustrious Deception Pass, where the horizon widened and nature began to speak through rugged ocean cliffs, high-arched bridges, and quiet forests. There is a hidden magic here that has made Whidbey Island a timeless escape in Washington. This magic is found where nature’s stillness meets human presence, no less, woven into the spirit of the place and the lives of those who inhabit it.
